One of New Zealand’s most celebrated contemporary artists, Jody Hope Gibbons returns to Turua Gallery this May with Vintage, an intimate and deeply personal exhibition showcasing works from The Jody Hope Gibbons Archival Collection.
Opening from 5pm on Friday 15 May and running through until 27 May, the exhibition offers collectors and art lovers a rare opportunity to experience a curated body of work spanning decades of Gibbons’ evolving practice. Featuring paintings and pieces the artist has lived alongside for years, Vintage traces the threads of colour, texture and emotion that have become synonymous with her unmistakable style.
Known for richly layered compositions that move between abstraction, landscape and assemblage, Gibbons’ work is driven by instinct, curiosity and a lifelong need to create. Her paintings reveal depth beneath the surface, where composition, texture and subtle detailing quietly shape every piece.
Adding another layer to the exhibition experience, selections from the artist’s personal vintage collection, including rugs, furniture and found objects, will be incorporated throughout the gallery space, reflecting the inspiration behind many of the works themselves.
For founder and gallery owner Liss Wallace, Vintage is more than an exhibition. It is a reflection of an artist’s life, creative evolution and enduring connection with collectors across Aotearoa and beyond.
With strong interest already building following Gibbons’ previous sold out exhibition with the gallery, Vintage is expected to be one of the season’s standout art events.

Pink Shirt Day returns to Aotearoa on Friday 15 May, uniting schools, workplaces and communities in a global movement built on kindness, inclusion and standing against bullying. What began in Canada in 2007 after two students took a stand for a classmate being bullied for wearing pink has since grown into an internationally recognised campaign encouraging people to speak up, support one another and create safer communities.
In New Zealand, Pink Shirt Day is led by the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand, with this year’s official merchandise collection created in partnership with Cotton On. The 2026 designs feature original artwork by New Zealand illustrator Bonnie Brown, bringing a fresh local creative perspective to the campaign’s message of compassion, acceptance and belonging.
Wearing pink this Friday is more than a colour choice. It is a reminder that kindness matters, words carry weight, and every person deserves to feel safe, valued and seen..
