From the track to the terrace, The Reid Strawberry Caipiroska is this season’s signature sip.
There’s a particular kind of magic that settles over Canterbury in November — sunlight warming the plains, linen dresses fluttering in the breeze, and the first taste of summer sweetness arriving in bowls of fresh, local strawberries. Cup Week calls for a cocktail that captures that exact feeling: crisp, celebratory, and distinctly ours.
Enter The Reid Strawberry Caipiroska, a handcrafted ode to New Zealand’s alpine purity and southern craftsmanship. Distilled at altitude, The Reid Vodka by Cardrona Distillery is the perfect base — clean, mineral, and meticulously made from malted barley and pure alpine water from the Cardrona Valley. When paired with the vibrancy of Canterbury strawberries, it becomes something far more than a drink — it’s summer, bottled and served over ice.
Recipe:
The Reid Strawberry Caipiroska
45ml The Reid Vodka
1 whole lime, cut into quarters
15–20ml sugar syrup (1:1 sugar and water ratio)
Fresh strawberries (or other seasonal fruits)
Method:
Add the lime and strawberries to an ice shaker and gently muddle to release their juices. Pour in The Reid Vodka and sugar syrup, then add ice. Shake well and pour all contents — fruit and all — into a rocks glass. Garnish with slices of fresh strawberries.
